Date Night

My husband and I try to have a date night at least once a month. I think it is very important to spend time with your spouse/significant other, without any children. Don’t get me wrong, we love our son to pieces and love spending time with him, but it is so nice to have an evening or weekend where you can enjoy yourself and aren’t on parent duty! Our son went to Grammy and Pappy’s for the weekend and we were able to go out to dinner, talk, cuddle, and sleep-in!

Even though my husband and I have been a couple for nearly ten years and married for almost five years, I still try to dress up and look good for him and he does the same for me, though I usually pick out his clothes! It’s fun to wear something a little dressier that you don’t wear everyday.

For me, getting “dressed up” for a date night means wearing a shirt that I don’t have to worry about my son staining!  I wore a cute bold graphic print peplum by Paper Crane Company that I bought last month at TJ Maxx for $14.99.  I forgot to take a picture of the back, but it is adorable!  The low back of the shirt is open showing a little skin, but not too much.  I don’t do the low cut shirt thing anymore, if you do, good for you.  After breastfeeding and pumping for nearly a year, my boobs practically disappeared and I want to keep them covered and to myself!  I wore my go to dark skinny jeans and a pair of tan strappy wedges.  I know some people wear this type of outfit everyday, but I don’t so in my world this is getting dressed up!

I love this gold cuff!  I bought it in college at the Fashion Bug for a couple of dollars and had to show it off!

My husband was nice enough to be my chauffeur for our date night.  I will admit we missed our son’s constant commentary on the drive.  He lets us know each time we pass a car, truck, big truck, tractor, flag, cow, and ballon!  However, we quickly got over his absence and were able to have a great conversation without any interruptions, snacks being thrown, or shrieking!

happy faces of parents on a much needed date

We went to dinner at a great restaurant in Elk Grove, The Brick House.  It is one of our favorite places to go.  The food is fabulous and the service is fantastic.  I had my 30th birthday party there.  The Brick House had a live band playing last night and we even danced!  Fun times!

every date needs dessert

Even though I ate too much and probably had a bit more wine than necessary, we had to get dessert!  Don’t worry my hubby was the DD, we trade off when we go on dates.  The apple crisp was amazing!

My advice to all couples – have a date night, just the two of you!  There is something to be said about spending quality time with the one you love.  It rejuvenates your relationship and  gives you the opportunity to focus on each other without any distractions!

    1. That is a great question. I am spoiled because my husband plans almost all of our dates. I think in general, women tend to be planners and organizers and do tend to take the lead on date nights.
