OOTD: Mint Stripes

Happy Friday everyone!  I am having a fantastic Good Friday, hope you are as well.  I have a few free moments and thought I would do my OOTD post now, while my son is napping. I recently received a private message about my OOTD posts, wondering why I post pictures of what I am wearing and how I could possibly consider myself frugal.

I do these posts with the intention of helping others in two ways – first, to show that cute clothes don’t have to cost a fortune and second, to give people ideas on what to wear or how to wear pieces they already own in different ways.  I thought my intentions were clear, I don’t think of myself as a “fashionista” or someone who is hoping to become a model! LOL! If there is ever a market for 31 year-old, 5’2 moms, with TMH (too much hair) I suppose I have that market covered.  In all seriousness, my goal is to help and share with others.

Also, I understand that the dictionary definition of frugal means to be careful or cheap with your money.  I try to be careful with my money, but I am still going to spend money and that is why I include the price of the items I post about.  If I compare my spending today, to how I spent five years ago, I am beyond frugal.  So, I guess I would consider myself a reformed shopoholic on the journey to frugalism!

Black and white striped t-shirt $7.99 from Ross, bought in December, last seen here.

Mint skinny jeans $19 from TJ Maxx, bought a few weeks ago, last seen here.

Gold pave post earrings free from my grandma.

Black patent leather and cork wedge slides $12, from For Elyse, bought several years ago. I love For Elyse!  It is a store in Chico, CA that has the cutest clothing, shoes, and accessories.  It has grown quite a bit since I was a college student and now they have a website, which is awesome!

  1. Kari it sounds like someone was being rude to you and perhaps a little but jealous. I truly hope you don’t let whatever they said (or asked) change anything you feel or the way you run your blog!! Everyone with a brain can see exactly why you post what you do. I for one look most forward to the OOTD posts. I have considered sending in requests to ask you help me figure out the best way to wear a new item because you are amazing at putting pieces together.

Everyone’s definition of frugal will be a little different according to their personal circumstances. I LOVE your blog because most fashion pieces I read that claim to be frugal or steals are posting $600 knock off versions of a $6,000 dress- neither of which are affordable to me. Your outfits are RIGHT ON and I live how you include nicer pieces like a Tiffany bracelet with some of the Target bargain bin thins as well. That’s just my style personally and I’m sure many others’ as well.

As for you posting pics of yourself in the outfits I am MOST glad for that because EVERYTHING looks different on. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen something on Pinterest or created an outfit in Polyvore, only to find out that once it’s in it doesn’t quite look right. Seeing ways to piece outfits together on a real live human being is incredibly helpful!

You are beautiful and awesome at what you do and I’m sure i speak for the majority of your readers when i say please don’t change a thing. Happy Easter weekend!

    1. Nikki, Thank you so much! You are too kind and beautiful on the inside and outside! I really shouldn’t be so sensitive, I teach 8th graders for God’s sake, you would think I would have thicker skin about a silly anonymous email! You just validated my ootd posts for me. I hope you have a fabulous Easter with your family!

      1. Ahhhh it was anonymous of course. Sounds a little like high school bullying. You definitely don’t have time for that silliness. I have thin skin as well, it’s hard when you put so much time and effort into something to NOT take it personally when somebody attacks you. It’s obviously not a legitimate complaint though, if the person was really that turned off by your blog they would simply stop reading it and go away. They fact that they took the time to email you shows that they were just trying to bring you down. It must really, really suck to be them! You’re doing everything just right, winning blogging awards and I’m sure your page views are trending upward! Don’t change a thing.

  2. Your experience reminds me of the saying, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s great.
On another note, love the skinnies!!

      1. Oh and I forgot, i’ve never been much of a soda drikenr, the only thing soda I drink is Mountain Dew. I only have those every once in a while. I used to have energy drinks a few times a week, but i’ve given those up completely.

Your fabulous thoughts...
